How to find a HYROX doubles partner

HYROX Doubles is the most social way to race — two athletes, one time. But unlike the open division, you can't sign up solo. Here's how doubles actually works, what makes a good partner, and where to find one near you.

How HYROX Doubles works

You run together

In HYROX Doubles, both partners run all eight 1 km laps side by side. Your running pace as a pair is set by the slower runner — so matching on run fitness matters more than anything.

You split the stations

At each of the eight workout stations you can divide the work however you like. A strong sled pusher can take more meters there; a wall-ball specialist can take extra reps.

One time, one team

You cross the finish line together and get one shared time. Doubles is one of the most popular divisions — and you simply cannot register without a partner.

What makes a good doubles partner

Doubles teams fall apart over logistics and pacing, not motivation. Check these four things before you book your event:

Matching run pace

Because you run every kilometer together, test a few joint runs early. A gap of more than ~30 seconds per kilometer will frustrate one of you on race day.

Complementary station strengths

You don't need to be equal at everything. The best doubles teams pair different strengths — one engine for the runs, one powerhouse for the sled.

The same goal

Finishing your first HYROX and chasing a sub-70 time are different commitments. Agree on the goal before you book the event.

A schedule that actually overlaps

Doubles prep takes 8–12 weeks of joint sessions. Pick someone whose week looks like yours — mornings, evenings, weekends.

Your 10-week doubles plan

Weeks 1–2: test each other

Do a baseline run and a half-HYROX simulation together. This tells you honestly whether your levels match before you commit to an event.

Weeks 3–8: build together

Two to four sessions a week: compromised running (run, then station work) plus strength. Practice switching at stations until the handover is automatic.

Weeks 9–10: rehearse race day

Run a full simulation at target pace, agree on who takes which share of every station, and plan your pacing for the first two kilometers — most doubles teams start too fast.
